The RMA is currently involved in the development of a group of exciting projects.Where appropriate the RMA will  publish reports and any necessary policy notes or guidance.

LSCMI

Initial agreement has been reached for a pilot to be carried out in Renfrewshire, with ongoing evaluation and feedback.   It is likely that the project will last 12 - 24 months and inform the further development, implementation and future larger evaluation study of LSCMI across Scotland.

The project  will include 2 training events, evaluation and  feedback, and  will  pilot LSCMI with

  • Scottish amendments
  • Risk of serious harm sections
  • Risk of serious harm guidance and training

and

  • deliver evaluation and feedback
  • support the national LSCMI project
  • contribute to the national risk assessment framework project
  • explore the contribution of LSI-SV and LSCMI to violence risk assessment

Framework for Risk Assessment and Management Effectiveness (FRAME)

The RMA commissioned research into the Assessment and Management of Risk, two papers, one from Professor David Farrington and the other from Dr. Monica Barry. They examined two different aspects, one a meta-analytical study of the use of assessment tools, and the other a review of current practice and practitioner needs. The RMA subsequently published both papers alongwith a covering paper on this website.

The development of FRAME, will incorporate guidance on the principles and process of risk assessment, and provide supporting sources of information at varying levels of depth, appropriate to the purpose at each stage. Risk assessment tools will be located appropriately  within the framework consistent with an approach that recognises the value of tools within structured professional judgement alongside guidance about responsible use of such instruments.

This project will  combine  strands of the above research, and develop a framework that practitioners can use in Risk Assessment. It is proposed that the framework should be available in both a hard copy and in a desktop / CD-Rom format  that practitioners can use and interact with.

This project will be dependent on a number of developments in other areas, particularly our project on LSCMI, and wider developments in the criminal justice area.

If you have ideas for new research projects, we would welcome a proposal.  You can access the Template for Submission of Research Proposals by clicking here.
